Amreen’s Smile

Nirikshea School Gives Hope

Amreen grew up in one of the poorest areas of Bangalore, India.  Her mother found Nirikshea and sent her children at an early age to give them hope for a better future.

But, her mother passed away when she was young and her father remarried.  Her step mother did not love or accept her four step children and treated them harshly.  She forced them to take on many household chores and fend for themselves.  But Amreen and her siblings continued to attend Nirikshea and did very well in spite of the extra hard work and lack of home support they endured.  In fact, Amreen and her siblings were basically raised by the Nirikshea staff.

That’s what makes this picture so special.  Amreen recently became our first college graduate in India.  Then, she passed her teacher certification and landed her first job!  Without Nirikshea, Amreen and her siblings would have most likely dropped out of school and been left to a life of labor in the slums.

That smile is a smile of hope.  Thank you for making this possible!
